It is believed that the Buddha invited all the animals to witness his departure from the world and the first 12 animals to arrive were rewarded a place on the Chinese Zodiac in accordance to his arrival.
The first to cross the finish line was the rat, followed by the ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and finally, the pig.
And yes, Dragon's do exist ... afterall it's China! J
